The Park Includes 26 Natural Communities
From the floodplain swamps up hundreds of feet through the mesic flatwoods to the sandhills these natural communities is one of the most unique characteristics of Dunns Creek State Park.  It includes a bog, a shell mound, depression marshes, a sinkhole pond and a wet prairie.  Each unique and no less important than the rest.  The largest communities include:
  • Sandhill - 1332 acres 
  • Mesic Flatwood - 1032 acres
  • Floodplain Swamp - 1028 acres
  • Scrub - 880 acres
